The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu has approved the solar electrification of the Igoli-Okuku road.

The project, which will utilize a 100-watt solar system, is expected to alleviate challenges faced by motorists and pedestrians who often struggle with total darkness along the major road. With this initiative, the Governor is demonstrating his commitment to providing sustainable solutions to the state’s infrastructure needs.

Speaking, the Director General of the State Electrification Agency, Mr. Francis Ekpo, says the Governor’s excitement for the project was made clear. Mr. Ekpo urged the youths of Ogoja and Yala to unite in protecting this critical infrastructure. “It’s one thing for government presence to be felt by the people, but it’s of greater importance that these developments and infrastructures are protected by the community,” he said.

He called on the youth to resist any external forces seeking to vandalize government assets, emphasizing that the project is a right and benefit of the people.

The approval comes just weeks after the Governor gave the green light for electrification in Bekwarra Local Government Area and some communities in Odukpani Local Government where engineers have already commenced work.

The immediate deployment of workers to the Igoli-Okuku project site is set to kick-start installation without delay, ensuring the swift execution of the Governor’s vision for improved infrastructure and security in the northern part of the State.
