The Executive Chairman of Biase Local Government Area, Cross River State, Hon. Edodi Eyong, has officially inaugurated the newly elected councillors, who emerged victorious at the November 2 local government elections in the state.

The inauguration ceremony took place today, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Local Government Secretariat, Akpet Central, Biase LGA.

In his address, Chairman Edodi expressed his unwavering commitment to collaborating with the people of Biase to bring about positive transformation, fostering a peaceful, developed, and unified community. He outlined his administration’s blueprint, which prioritizes Education, Health and Social Services, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Welfare and Social Development, Infrastructure, Youth and Women’s Empowerment, Gender-Based Initiatives, and Security.

He stated, “I urge all councillors to embrace the core mandate of your role: to enact bye-laws that will positively impact the lives of our people. Perform your duties with integrity and humility, always keeping the interests of those who placed their trust in you at heart. Governance is a sacred responsibility that demands our best efforts and sacrifices. We are committed to working in harmony with you to foster a productive, mutually rewarding relationship that serves Biase’s best interests.”

He continued, “Today marks a new chapter for Biase, written by our collective vision and the democratic will of our people, as provided under the Cross River State Local Government Law No. 22 of 2007, as amended. I extend my unreserved congratulations to our elected councillors here for a well-deserved victory at the polls. Your victory is not just personal; it is a victory for every son and daughter of Biase who dreams of a better, more prosperous homeland.”

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected leader of the 8th Legislative Assembly, Hon. Egeh Umet, expressed his dedication to crafting policies that address real challenges, including infrastructure, education, economic empowerment, and social welfare, aligned with Governor Bassey Otu’s “People’s First” agenda.

“As I accept this responsibility,” Umet said, “I am fully aware of the expectations, challenges, and sacrifices required to serve the people of Biase effectively. With God’s guidance, our Chairman’s support, the unwavering dedication of my colleagues, and the strength of our people, I am confident we will succeed in building a prosperous, united, and thriving Biase.”

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent Biase indigenes, including Rt. Hon. Alex Ukam, Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission; Engr. Francie Ogban, Member representing Biase State Constituency; Hon. Ekuma Ngwu, Council Vice Chairman; the APC Chapter Chairman; party executives; DGs; traditional rulers; and elder statesmen.
