The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, (KSM) has reiterated his administration’s commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture and promoting businesses across the Obudu Local Government Area.
Hon. Undiandeye made this declaration during the Obudu Cultural Day Exhibition at the 2024 Cross River State Trade Fair, held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Tuesday.
The event, organized by the Cross River State Government, aims to celebrate the state’s cultural heritage and showcase its economic potential.
Emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting the agrarian culture of the Obudu people, Hon. Undiandeye noted that the exhibition aligns with the vision of the state Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu. The governor’s “People First” mantra prioritizes the welfare, culture, and unity of Cross River State citizens.
He highlighted his administration’s focus on unlocking investment opportunities in the agro-allied sector as a means to combat food insecurity and mitigate the rising cost of food. He assured stakeholders of his commitment to creating an enabling environment for agribusinesses to flourish.
“Our goal is to empower the youth with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to drive agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship at the ward level. This will not only boost food production but also enhance the socioeconomic well-being of the Obudu people,” he stated.
Commending Governor Otu for implementing policies that promote agro-allied activities, Hon. Undiandeye described such initiatives as critical to providing alternative and lucrative livelihoods for youth and women amidst global food challenges.
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Commerce, Hon. Mrs. Abigail Duke, praised the council chairman for his visionary leadership and urged the people of Obudu to support his efforts to improve their living standards.
Goodwill messages from dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, Mrs. Monica Ugi, and Captain Jerome Agba, applauded the chairman’s inclusive approach to governance, and encouraged stakeholders and all well meaning sons and daughters of Obudu Local Government Area to remain steadfast in their support for his development agenda.
The event’s highlight was an exhibition showcasing an impressive array of crafts, agricultural produce, and traditional delicacies, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Obudu people.
