The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, has commended the Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, for his exceptional efforts in improving security across the state.

Hon. Undiandeye made this commendation on Wednesday at the council headquarters during the commemoration of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Obudu Local Government Area.

The event, which was held to honor Nigeria’s fallen heroes, had in attendance the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Rhoda Ashong, Paramount Ruler of Obudu LGA, represented by the Clan Head of Bedia-Likwu, HRH Chief Tony Undiandeye, Leader of Council, Hon. Samuel Ashibi, and heads of security agencies in the area, among others.

In his address, Undiandeye praised Governor Otu’s administration for prioritizing the safety of lives and property through strategic security measures. He highlighted the governor’s contributions to reducing crime and fostering peace and stability, especially in Obudu and pledged to sustain his support to the Governor’s security initiatives for the overall interest of the residents of the state.

“Governor Otu has demonstrated exceptional leadership by renovating infrastructure and constructing access roads around key security installations, including the CRS Command, the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force, the FRSC, and the Department of State Services. This underscores the governor’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for inter-agency collaboration. We are deeply grateful for his dedication,” Undiandeye stated.

The chairman also underscored the significance of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day as a time to honor the sacrifices of military personnel who defended the nation’s sovereignty. He urged residents to support the families of fallen heroes and remain united in the pursuit of peace and progress.

While congratulating ex-servicemen on their successful retirement from active service, Undiandeye encouraged them, along with traditional rulers, to continue their unwavering support for the government by maintaining vigilance in their domains. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to zero tolerance for crime.

Highlights of the event included a parade by ex-servicemen, a wreath-laying ceremony, and prayers for the repose of the fallen heroes.

Some of the legionnaires expressed gratitude to Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, Governor Otu, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, for recognizing their contributions. They also called for continued welfare support for retired military personnel and their families.

Other notable attendees included Rt. Capt. Jerome Agba, Rt. Col. Agba Atah, legionnaires, widows, traditional rulers, religious leaders, council appointees, and representatives of various organizations.
