The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, has reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to the advancement of education and the overall well-being of children in the area.

Speaking at a colorful Children’s Day celebration held at the Obudu Township Stadium, Hon. Undiandeye emphasized the importance of quality education as the foundation for a brighter future. He declared that educational development remains a top priority of his administration, with plans already underway to enhance infrastructure, provide essential learning materials, and implement teacher training programs across public schools in the LGA.

“As Chairman of Council, I remain deeply committed to nurturing the educational potential of every child in Obudu. Within our first six months in office, we have registered over 150 indigenous students for the just-concluded JAMB examinations, and distributed more than 15,000 notebooks, alongside other materials such as marker boards and pens,” he stated.

Undiandeye further noted, “We are fulfilling our campaign promises by ensuring that every child in Obudu has access to quality education, and we are cultivating a culture of learning and intellectual growth that prepares them for the future.”

He stressed that children are the future leaders of Obudu and Nigeria, and it is the collective duty of government and stakeholders to equip them with the tools they need to succeed, both academically and morally. “We will continue to engage partners and stakeholders to ensure no child is left behind in the pursuit of quality education,” he added.

Speaking on his administration’s education policy, Undiandeye noted that the council’s initiatives align with the “People First” agenda of the Cross River State Government led by Senator Bassey Otu, which places children and education at the center of developmental planning.

In her welcome address, the Supervisor for Education, Rebecca Itakwu, highlighted the significance of Children’s Day, celebrated annually on May 27, as a reminder of the rights and needs of children. She called on stakeholders, community leaders, and well-meaning individuals to support the Undiandeye-led administration in creating a secure, inclusive, and conducive learning environment for children.

She further revealed that talks are at an advanced stage with relevant MDAs for the establishment of a learning support center, where over 2,000 customized exercise books, 1,000 marker boards and pens, and other educational materials will be distributed to aid classroom learning.

On the sidelines of the event, Mr. Angioha Sylvester, a staff member of Handmaids Girls College, Obudu, praised the council chairman for reviving the celebration of Children’s Day, noting that it had not been held in years. He expressed optimism that the renewed focus on education will positively impact the academic performance and morale of students across the LGA.

The event, which featured a grand march past, fun games, educational activities, and an award presentation, drew participation from over 20 schools and was well attended by councillors, government officials, security personnel, parents, guardians, and enthusiastic children.
