The Head of Personal Staff to the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Dr. Chris Ojikpong, has reaffirmed the steadfast support of the Deputy Governor’s office for women-focused initiatives, in line with the administration’s people-centered development agenda of Governor Bassey Otu.
Dr. Ojikpong made this known on Thursday while receiving members of the Ogoja Women in Politics, led by Hon. Torita Odey, during a courtesy visit to his office at Government House, Calabar.
Pledging his personal commitment to the success of programmes that promote gender inclusion, Dr. Ojikpong stated, “You recently met with my principal, who assured your group of his full support. I am equally committed and will provide him with all the necessary backing to ensure the successful implementation of all your programmes.”
Dr. Ojikpong recounted the vital role women continue to play in the political process, particularly in electioneering activities in Ogoja such as voter mobilization, grassroots engagement, and community sensitization. According to him, women remain key drivers of political participation and social stability.
Dr. Ojikpong also used the opportunity to call for greater female representation in governance, stressing that no meaningful development can occur without the inclusion of women in decision-making structures.
Earlier in her remarks, the leader of the delegation and Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Mobilization and Development, Hon. Torita Odey, expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and open-door policy of the Deputy Governor’s office, especially the hospitality extended by his Head of Personal Staff, Dr. Chris Ojikpong. She described the engagement as a clear reaffirmation of the administration’s genuine commitment to women’s empowerment and political inclusion.
She highlighted the group’s proposed programmes aimed at empowering women in Ogoja and advocating for their increased participation in governance and leadership. Hon. Odey further assured that Ogoja Women in Politics remains steadfast in its support for the current administration, particularly in promoting initiatives that positively impact women, youth, and children across the state.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Mrs. Philomena Nyiam expressed sincere gratitude to the host for the opportunity and warm reception. She assured Dr. Ojikpong of the women’s continued loyalty and unwavering support for the administration of Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey.
A highlight of the visit was the presentation of a souvenir to the Head of Personal Staff.
