The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, today Thursday,14th December, 2023 received in his office the Northern Cross River Carnival Committee.
The committee which is headed by the immediate past Chairman of Ogoja LGA, Hon. Emmanuel Ishabor, said the northern carnival is an initiative of the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu who feels that there should also be a feeling of Christmas in the north during the yelutide season.
Hon. Ishabor expressed hope that the carnival will boost the economy of the north, promote local artists and showcase the rich culture of the people of the north.
He added that the committee deemed it necessary to interface with the Deputy Governor and seek his guidance, being the Number 2 citizen of the State and leader of the north. The carnival will feature five bands headed by Hon. Peter Odey(Ogoja), Hon. Legor Idagbor (Bekwarra), the immediate past Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade (Obudu), Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo (Obanlikwu), and Sen. Stephen Odey (Yala).
Responding to the remark by the chairman, Rt. Hon. Odey commended the committee for their commitment and urged them to ensure that the northern carnival does not become a political party event, but open to all northern Cross Riverians.
