A Non-Governmental Organization(NGO), Abon Abang Foundation, has distributed educational materials to pupils and students across public schools in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Speaking with journalists in Calabar after the foundation distributed educational materials to the beneficiary schools, the Founder of the Abon Abang Foundation, Engr. George Ndifom Abang, Ph.D., stated that the items were distributed to Modern Secondary School, Bendeghe Ekiem, Community Secondary School, Nsofang, Njim Titor Primary School, Bendeghe Ekiem, and St. Anthony’s Primary School, Ajassor.

He explained that the initiative, tagged “Back-to-School,” is part of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to enhancing education in Etung LGA and the state at large. He added that the gesture aims to promote reading and learning among pupils and students while urging individuals to give back to society in whatever capacity they can.

Engr Abang further disclosed that, in addition to the educational materials, the foundation has awarded scholarships to students in tertiary institutions from Etung and Obubra Local Government Areas, provided health support to those in need, and actively assisted underprivileged members of society.
Leading the delegation to distribute the learning materials at the various schools, Mr. Elvis Okorn noted that hundreds of schoolchildren received essential learning items, including school bags, exercise books, and writing materials. He emphasized that education remains the most effective tool for empowering communities and breaking the cycle of poverty, adding that the foundation will continue to invest in programmes that expand learning opportunities for children in rural areas.

He also hinted that similar gestures would soon be extended to public schools in Obubra Local Government Area.
Teachers and students of the benefiting schools expressed gratitude to the foundation for what they described as a rare, uncommon, and historic intervention. They commended the foundation for its consistent investment in education and its efforts to promote reading and learning among pupils and students.
