The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, (KSM), has approved the constitution of both a Local Government and Ward Sanitation Committee to improve waste management, cleanliness, and environmental sustainability across the LGA.
The committees are tasked with enforcing sanitation regulations, overseeing waste disposal systems, and maintaining cleanliness in urban and rural areas. They will also collaborate with community leaders, environmental health officers, and relevant government agencies to promote hygiene and public health at all levels.
Announcing the appointments through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ikwen Atuaka, Hon. Undiandeye emphasized the urgency of tackling sanitation challenges, particularly as urbanization increases. He highlighted the committees’ crucial role in ensuring a clean and healthy environment for residents.
“These committees will be responsible for keeping our communities free from waste-related hazards. Their duties include enforcing sanitation laws, educating the public on proper waste disposal, and organizing regular clean-up exercises,” he stated.
Members were selected based on their expertise in environmental management, public health, and community service.
Both the Local Government Sanitation Committee and the Ward Sanitation Committees are expected to commence operations immediately, with periodic progress reports submitted to the council for evaluation and policy guidance.
