As part of the activities to commemorating the 10th anniversary of the passing of Rev. (Dr.) Ben Ugbuji, the Reverend Ben Ugbuji Foundation (RBUF), established in his honor, empowered women and granted scholarships to secondary students on Saturday.
The event took place at the Secondary School field in Anyikang in Bekwerra Local Government Area.
In his opening remarks, Chief Pius Unawu explained that the Reverend Ben Ugbuji Foundation was founded in November 2018 in honor of the late Rev. (Dr.) Ben Ugbuji, following his passing a decade ago.
He noted that this year’s event marks the foundation’s 6th year of impacting communities, changing destinies, and contributing to community development.
In his remarks, Mr Modey Ugbuji said that the foundation was established to expand philanthropy in society, providing additional support to the less privileged and assisting nonprofits in continuing their essential services to humanity. Today’s event was particularly special as it allowed the foundation to reach out to women to expand their businesses and boost students’ academic performance through educational support grants.
Presenting the cash awards to beneficiaries on behalf of the foundation, Mrs. Mary Ugbuji emphasized that the foundation has consistently provided educational support to students and empowered women since its inception.
She urged the beneficiaries, especially the women who received cash grants, to utilize the funds effectively and encouraged the students to excel in their studies, highlighting education as a gateway to self-reliance.
In response, the elated beneficiaries, including the youth and women, expressed their gratitude to the foundation by singing songs of appreciation.
The high point of the ceremony was a birthday party hosted by the foundation in honor of Mrs. Mary Ugbuji, the wife of the foundation’s founder. The celebration included cutting a memorial/birthday cake, presenting cash awards to students and women, and receiving goodwill messages from community leaders, beneficiaries, friends, and family members.
The event was graced by the Head of Personal Staff to the Deputy Governor, Dr Chris Ojikpong, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr Fred Abua, Esq, traditional rulers and women, youth among others
