The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of Obudu residents through strategic infrastructure and social interventions, with a particular emphasis on agriculture to enhance food security.

Hon. Undiandeye made this commitment while addressing the press on Wednesday on the sideline at the 4th Local Government Economic Summit in Abuja, themed “25 Years of Uninterrupted Democracy in Nigeria: The Role of Local Government in Rural Development and Food Security,” organized by the Summit Group.

Undiandeye emphasized his administration’s focus on unlocking investment opportunities in the agro-allied sector as a means to tackle food insecurity and address the rising cost of food. He pledged to foster partnerships with other local government stakeholders and organizations nationwide and beyond, to advance agricultural initiatives and drive rural development.

Speaking at the event, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), represented by Mr. Simon Tyungu, a director in the SGF’s office, reiterated the federal government’s commitment to strengthening local governance.

On his part, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, underscored the importance of local governments conducting self-assessments to identify areas of comparative advantage.

He assured participants that the federal government is committed to supporting local governments in boosting their economic capacities and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Hon. Aminu Maifata, former President of ALGON and Chairman of the Board of Governance for the Local Government Economic Summit Group (LGESG), described the summit as a vital platform for stakeholders to address the myriad challenges facing Nigeria’s local government system.

The two-day summit, which concluded on December 4, 2024, brought together local government chairmen and stakeholders to exeexplore the potential of local government autonomy and its role in advancing national development.
