In a landmark move to transform regional transportation, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has unveiled two new aircraft for the revival of Cally Air, the state-owned airline, marking a bold step toward resolving chronic flight disruptions and elevating the state’s profile in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, emphasized the significance of the acquisition in a post on his official Facebook page, stating: “We are good to go. His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu set to put an end to flight difficulties in Cross River State”. (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/12JpLKPp7R4/)

The new fleets will offering residents and tourists a dependable travel option, especially during major events like the iconic Calabar Carnival. The move follows years of operational setbacks for the airline, initially launched under a previous administration but plagued by delays and cancellations.

The aircraft acquisition aligns with Cross River’s broader vision to host Nigeria’s largest airline. Beyond modernizing existing aircraft engines, the administration is overhauling legacy policies to incorporate “21st-century values” aimed at efficiency and sustainability.

The governor also highlighted complementary infrastructure projects, including the ongoing construction of the Obudu Cargo and Passenger Airport and a state-backed rail network.

These initiatives aim to boost connectivity to key tourist hubs like the Obudu Mountain Resort while diversifying transport options for citizens.
