The humanitarian gestures and humanistic disposition of the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Mr Darlington Bassey Eyo, have been commended by the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Cross River State.

The commendation was conveyed during the official investiture of the chairman as a Platinum Member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Performing the investiture and official decoration, the leader of the organization, conveyed his deep appreciations to the Chairman for his kindhearted gestures, particularly in the areas of employment, job creation and community service.
He stated that such people-oriented acts are in line with the organization’s goals, which are purely humanitarian.

While expressing genuine appreciations, Mr Darlington Bassey, said that his love for humanity bears so much on his upbringing. He said that growing up in a community social setting, brought about his ideological foundation which is deeply rooted the communal existence.

According to the chairman also, his decision to accept to become a member of the humanitarian organization, is born out of his administration and love for its activities of saving lives and giving back to humanity.

The chairman dedicated the honor to the Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, whose love for humanity informed his ‘People First’ mantra, an ideology that has become a driving force for good governance. He further buttressed that the governor’s approval for employment after several years of embargo, is aimed at lifting thousands out of poverty and giving them sustainable livelihood.

The Red Cross movement was founded by Henry Dunant in 1863 having experienced the suffering of wounded soldiers at the Battle of Solferino in 1859.
The organization offers practical First Aid assistance and training of individuals on how to save lives during emergencies, especially in areas where hospital and clinical services are scarce.

The event, which coincided with the World Red Cross Day, with Theme: _”On the side of Humanity”_, featured awareness on the objectives of Red Cross and the ideological underpinnings behind their activities and paper presentation from academic giants.

Also accompanying the chairman were; Ukandi Daniel Ochui (Commissioner 4), Mrs Wokeyin Otu (Commissioner 5), Mr Peter Elemi JP who is a deputy director in the commission, a ranking member and Youth director in the Nigetian Red Cross.
