The Cross River State Ministry of Youth Development and Skills Acquisition has applauded Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his commitment to strengthening the judiciary and entrenching good governance in the state.
In a statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner, Barr. Odum-Ijom Ukam, the Ministry described the recent swearing-in of two new Judges into the Cross River State Judiciary as a bold and commendable move. According to the statement, the Governor’s action reflects his passion for justice, fairness, and inclusive governance—values that remain central to the People’s First Agenda of his administration.

Among the newly appointed judicial officers is Hon. Justice Edu, Glory Bassey Esq., a distinguished legal practitioner and indigene of Biase Local Government Area. Her elevation to the revered position of Judge was described by the Ministry as both historic and inspiring.
“Hon. Justice Edu’s appointment is a testament to her years of diligence, integrity, and professional excellence,” the Ministry said. “It also serves as a beacon of hope and motivation to young people across the state, particularly women who aspire to leadership and professional distinction.”
The Ministry further noted that her rise to the Bench reinforces the message that competence and hard work can open doors to leadership, regardless of gender or background. It urged young people in Cross River to draw inspiration from her achievement and remain steadfast in pursuing excellence in their respective fields.
On behalf of the Ministry, Commissioner Ukam prayed for divine wisdom and strength for Hon. Justice Edu as she assumes her judicial responsibilities, expressing confidence that her tenure will be marked by courage, fairness, and distinction.
The statement also expressed gratitude to Governor Otu for what it described as his “exemplary and visionary leadership.” It added that his consistent efforts to strengthen state institutions have continued to bring honor, pride, and credibility to Cross River both within and outside Nigeria.
With this development, the Ministry reaffirmed its support for the Governor’s ongoing reforms, emphasizing that empowering institutions like the judiciary is vital to building a just, inclusive, and prosperous society.
