C’River Deputy Governor Presides Over State Taskforce Committee Meeting On Primary Healthcare.

The Cross River State Deputy Governor and Chairman State Taskforce Committee on Primary Health Care, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, on Thursday, presided over the meeting of the State Taskforce Committee on Primary Health Care.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor emphasized the State Government’s commitment to substantial investments, not only in Cholera, Poliomyelitis, Meningitis, and Lassa fever campaigns but also in all services offered by the Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA).

Commending service providers for their proactive approach in tackling emerging health challenges in the state, Odey assured that the Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, who is committed to health-friendly initiatives, aims to enhance human capital and continually improve health indices.

Responding to reported Cholera outbreaks in Obubra and Biase Local Government Areas, as well as one case of Lassa fever, the Deputy Governor called on partners, the Ministry of Water Resources, and Local Government Authorities to prioritize ensuring that communities have access to clean water. Underscoring the importance of good water and enhanced sanitation, the Deputy Governor emphasized their critical role in averting the spread of Cholera and Lassa fever.

He assured the taskforce of government continuous support in their efforts against diseases in the state, emphasizing that regular meetings would be convened.

Earlier, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, a representative of WHO and various heads of departments took turns to provide the Deputy Governor with updates on nutrition, immunization, RI performance, health surveillance, and health sector programs in the state. The Commissioner informed the house about the recent occurrence of three cases of Cholera and a Lassa fever case, highlighting ongoing efforts to promptly address and prevent the spread of Cholera and Lassa fever in the State.

Participants were drawn from the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women Affairs, partners organization such as WHO, UNICEF and Rotary International, among others.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Cross River State House Committee on Health, Rt. Hon. Hillary Bisong who made useful contributions during the deliberations
