The Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor of Cross River State on New Media, Mr. Owai Obo, has joined the growing number of Nigerians calling on the Federal Government to establish a Military Tribunal to fast-track the trial of suspects arrested for terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other related offences.
Mr. Obo noted that the escalating insecurity across the country continues to undermine national peace and stability, stressing that many terror-related suspects remain in detention for years without trial. This prolonged delay, he said, overwhelms the conventional courts and erodes public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.
He emphasized that a Military Tribunal-properly guided by clear legal frameworks and respect for human rights—would offer the speed, expertise, and specialized focus needed to handle these sensitive cases. According to him, such a dedicated tribunal would not only ensure swift prosecution but also help prevent the prolonged detention that often emboldens criminal networks.
Mr. Obo further highlighted that establishing the tribunal would decongest regular courts and enable security and legal professionals with experience in national security matters to deliver justice more efficiently and decisively.
“Nigeria cannot win the war against terror through military operations alone. Swift justice is a powerful deterrent,” he said, describing the creation of a Military Tribunal as a bold and necessary step toward restoring order and strengthening national security.
He reaffirmed his alignment with millions of Nigerians who believe the time for decisive action is now, stressing that the nation’s collective safety depends on urgent judicial reforms.
