The Leader of the Obudu Legislative Council and Councillor representing Utugwang North Ward, Hon. Eneji Sam, has commended Governor Bassey Otu and the Center for Community Policy and Strategic Development (CCPSD) for organizing a Capacity-Building and Utilization Training Workshop for Local Government Legislative Councils.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop at Ogoja Council Secretariat, Hon. Eneji Sam described the initiative as a timely and strategic intervention aimed at equipping local legislators with the necessary skills to enhance governance and service delivery at the grassroots level.
“This workshop is a commendable step towards strengthening local government institutions. I sincerely appreciate Governor Otu and CCPSD for their commitment to building the capacity of councillors, ensuring we are better equipped to serve our communities effectively,” he stated.
The training, which brought together local government legislators from various councils, focused on developing legislative skills, policy formulation, oversight functions, and community engagement strategies. Experts and facilitators provided insights into best practices for ensuring transparent, accountable, and people-centered governance at the grassroots level.
Hon. Eneji Sam further emphasized that capacity-building programs like this are essential in promoting good governance and sustainable development.
The leader of Councillors forum in Cross River State, Eneji, urged fellow councillors to apply the knowledge gained from the training in their legislative duties to drive meaningful change in their respective wards.
Participants including Councillors, Clerks and Deputy Clerks at the workshop expressed appreciation for the opportunity to enhance their governance skills and pledged to work towards effective representation, improved service delivery, and stronger legislative institutions.
