Biase Local Government Area has recorded a major legislative breakthrough as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Edodi Eyong Edodi, has officially assented to the Bill establishing the Biase Vocational Training Centre and for Other Related Matters. This marks a significant milestone in the council’s efforts to promote youth empowerment, technical skills development, and sustainable community growth.

The bill, one of the most people-centered laws passed by the 8th Biase Legislative Council-successfully scaled all legislative stages, including the First Reading, Second Reading, Committee Consideration, and a well-attended Public Hearing where stakeholders provided valuable recommendations that shaped the final document.

Sponsored by Hon. Omatey Godwin Edem, Majority Leader representing Umon North Ward, the Bill was co-sponsored by Hon. Prince Ojoi, Deputy Leader representing Umon South Ward, Hon. Uru Ivang Enang of Ehom Ward, Hon. Edwin Ekpeyong of Akpet/Abini Ward, and Hon. Emmanuel Ogban Egwu of Erei North Ward.

With the Chairman’s assent, the establishment of the Biase Vocational Training Centre is now backed by law, paving the way for strategic interventions aimed at reducing unemployment, curbing social vices, and expanding access to functional vocational and technical education.

The Centre is designed to provide practical, market-driven vocational and technical training, empower youths, women, and artisans with employable and entrepreneurial skills, promote local content development and innovation, support peace-building and strengthen inter-community relations, and enhance economic productivity across the LGA.

Hon. Edodi commended the Leader of the 8th Legislative Council, Hon. Egwu Egeh Umet (Admin), the sponsors, and all council members for their dedication to transparent and people-oriented legislation. He assured the public that implementation processes for the Vocational Training Centre would commence without delay.

Speaking further, the Biase Local Government Council reaffirmed its commitment to policies that foster development, empowerment, and sustainable progress across all communities, adding that the LGA has officially taken a bold step toward a future anchored on skills, productivity, peace, and innovation.

Signed:
Biase 8th Legislative Council
