Cross River State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has commended the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Nation, HRM Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, for sustaining peace and fostering development throughout his decade-long reign.

Odey gave this commendation during a courtesy visit to the monarch’s palace in Ugep on Saturday, ahead of the revered ruler’s 10th anniversary on the throne and 66th birthday celebration.

Highlighting the Paramount Ruler’s impactful leadership, Odey stated that Governor Bassey Otu’s administration deeply appreciates the harmony witnessed in Yakurr under His Royal Majesty’s stewardship. He further noted that the monarch’s exemplary governance has inspired Yakurr-born officials in the state government to excel in their roles, contributing to the actualization of the ‘People First’ mantra of the Governor.

“Your reign has been marked by remarkable peace and unity, which are vital for growth, and worthy of emulation by traditional rulers” Odey stated. “The Governor and the people of Cross River State are proud of your dedication to truth and peaceful coexistence.”

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing welfare programs for traditional institutions and citizens alike.

In his response, HRM Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng expressed gratitude for the visit and praised Governor Otu’s administration for creating a secure and business-friendly environment across the state and particularly, Yakurr Local Government Area.

He specifically acknowledged ongoing infrastructure projects embarked by the state government across the state, and in Yakurr LG, nothing such gesture plays a significant role in curbing unemployment and reducing crime among youth.

In the deputy governor’s entourage were Chief Dr Peter Ojie, High Chief Higgins Peter, and Chief Godwin Iyala, Director General of the State’s Health Insurance Agency as well as the Head of Personal Staff to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Chris Ojikpong, among others.
