Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Rev. Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, has provided cash donation to settle the hospital bills of two traders who suffered severe injuries as a result of electrocution which occurred in Calabar South area of the state last weekend.

Rev. (Mrs.) Otu who visited the victims, Chijioke Udoji and Uzoma Anthony, at the General Hospital Calabar, was accompanied by the lawmaker representing Calabar South 1 in the State Assembly, Hon. Effiong Ekarika, Special Adviser to the Governor on General Duties, Akiba Ekpenyong, Esq.

The Governor’s wife , who was represented by the Special Adviser Gender Mainstreaming, Dr Inyang Asibong, said being at the hospital fits into the Governor’s wife programme as the mother of the state inline with the Governor’s People First agenda.

She said the cash support was handy for those involved in the unexpected disaster.

Mr. Chijioke Udoji and Uzoma Anthony, traders at Chamley in Calabar South, cheated death by the whiskers after they were severely electrocuted last Saturday evening when an electric pole sparked and went up in flames which they became victims as both of them were trying to salvage their wares from their shops.

Speaking at the hospital, Dr. Asibong quoted the First Lady as saying, “I am here to not only thank God for His divine mercy of sparing your lives in that unfortunate electrical mishap, but to assure you that the Government of Cross River State identifies with both of you and your families in this terrible but avoidable circumstances.

“Let your minds be at rest and thankful to God as my office has undertaken all the medical expenses. I wish to also commend all those who put their lives at risk to avert a fatal outcome. I, however, urge the concerned authorities to investigate and see how such an unfortunate situation can be averted in the future” she said.

Aside the first lady’s donation to the victims , Hon. Effiong Ekarika also supported them with half a million Naira.
