Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State was aglow on Sunday as Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem and Council Chairmen gathered to celebrate the thanksgiving ceremony of the Council Chairman, Hon. (Amb) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM.
In his remarks, Governor Bassey Otu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar congratulated Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye on his emergence as Chairman following the last local government council elections. He commended the chairman’s early achievements, describing them as “people-centric” and reflective of the true spirit of leadership in line with his administration’s ‘People First’ agenda.
The governor emphasized the need for elected officials to prioritize the welfare of the people who entrusted them with leadership, urging other council chairmen to emulate Undiandeye’s dedication to grassroots development and inclusive governance.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting local councils, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure as well as security.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, praised Hon. Undiandeye for organizing the thanksgiving ceremony, noting that it was not merely a personal celebration but a communal act of gratitude for God’s blessings on Obudu. He lauded the cordial working relationship between the council chairman and his vice, urging other council leaders to treat their deputies as partners in progress rather than subordinates.
Also delivering remarks, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, expressed pride in Hon. Peter Undiandeye’s accomplishments. He called on political actors, religious and traditional leaders, as well as youth and women, to continue rallying behind the chairman to achieve greater success for Obudu.
In his address, Chief host and Local Government Chairman of Obudu, Hon. Peter Undiandeye gave thanks to God for his electoral victory and attributed his early successes, achieved within five months in office, to divine intervention and the unwavering support of Obudu residents. He pledged to lead with transparency, accountability, and dedication, focusing on infrastructural renewal, youth empowerment, and improved social services.
He acknowledged the unwavering support of Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, and reaffirmed his commitment to improving the socioeconomic well-being of the people of Obudu.
The carnival-like thanksgiving ceremony which held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Bedia Town, Obudu LGA, featured prayers, praise and worship, cultural performances, cake cutting, and goodwill messages from political, religious, and traditional stakeholders. Chief Martin Orim, members of the house of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Boniface Okache, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on General Duties, Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba. Directors of Homeland Security from the three senatorial districts, councillors, and other top government officials were also present.
The event further witnessed the presence of the Paramount Ruler of Obudu, Chairman of the NYCN, Cross River State Chapter, Forum of Chapter Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC), religious leaders, captains of industry, as well as various women and youth groups, among other guests.
