The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, as strongly condemned the tragic killing of a Tiv indigene in Obudu, following recent violent clashes between the Mbazerem community of Vandiekya and Abonkib village in Obudu.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Chairman described the incident as “barbaric, unfortunate, and entirely unacceptable, an act that undermines the peace and brotherhood we work hard to sustain.”

This follows alarming reports that two sons of Obudu, Nicolas from Aboinkib and Ake from Atiekpe, have been declared missing in the aftermath of the unrest.

Hon. Undiandeye decried any form of retaliatory violence, emphasizing that taking the law into one’s hands only deepens the crisis. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and allow lawful authorities to thoroughly investigate and address the matter.

“I deeply mourn the loss of lives on all sides and offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Every human life is precious. No grievance justifies violence, and the cycle of revenge must end,” the Chairman stated.

He assured the public that security agencies have been deployed to restore and maintain order while the local government collaborates with relevant authorities to de-escalate tensions and ensure justice for all affected.

Hon. Undiandeye called on traditional rulers, youth leaders, and community stakeholders to intensify peaceful dialogue and promote reconciliation. He also urged all residents of Obudu, including members of the Tiv community, to remain calm, law-abiding, and united as the situation is being addressed.
