Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has officially flagged off the construction of the Ndok Junction-Mbube-Okubushuyu road in Ogoja Local Government Area, marking another milestone in his administration’s infrastructure expansion agenda.
Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, at the ceremony held in Ekumtak-Mbube, Governor Otu emphasized that the project aligns with his government’s commitment to rural development, economic stimulation, and improved connectivity.
Governor Otu described the road as a critical artery that will unlock economic opportunities for rural communities while enhancing transportation for residents and businesses. He revealed that the project is the first phase, with subsequent extensions planned from Mbube East to Utugwan in Obudu LGA.
Urging the contractor to adhere to global best practices, the governor stressed the importance of local content inclusion, calling for the engagement of community labor to boost job creation and socioeconomic impact.
The Executive Chairman of Ogoja LGA, Hon. Christopher Agbeh, lauded Governor Otu for fulfilling campaign promises and pledged the community’s full support for the administration’s initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Pius Ankpo, commended K-Ton Building Waves Engineering Limited for its quality work on the ongoing 12km Ndok Junction-Abakpa-Igoli-Monaya road, urging the same standard for the newly flagged-off project.
Hon. Thomas Aruku, Member representing Ogoja State Constituency, echoed the sentiment, praising the state government for addressing long-neglected infrastructure needs in northern Cross River. “Governor Otu is bringing visible change to our people, and we are deeply grateful,” he stated.
Engr. Oladayo Kolawole of K-Ton Building Waves Engineering Limited reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the project on schedule while maintaining high engineering and environmental standards. He assured minimal disruption during construction and highlighted plans to involve local labor and subcontractors for inclusive community development.
Residents and traditional leaders hailed the project as a transformative intervention, recalling years of hardship due to the road’s poor condition. The ceremony, attended by political leaders, stakeholders, and community members, culminated in the symbolic ribbon-cutting by Deputy Governor Odey, signaling the immediate commencement of construction.
