All 54 councillors from the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State have declared their readiness to support former governor, Benedict Ayade, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The councillors made this known during a strategic gathering held in Obudu on Wednesday, with participants drawn from the five local government areas in the district.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Hon. Simon Oko commended the former governor for his consistent engagement with grassroots leaders and his recognition of their role in shaping the state’s political structure.

He described Ayade’s tenure as transformative, noting that many current community leaders and political figures rose through the ranks during his administration. According to him, the councillors remain committed to supporting Ayade’s ambition, should the party grant him the ticket.

He further noted that if the party leadership gives him the ticket as the APC senatorial flag bearer for the Northern Senatorial District, they will overwhelmingly support him, emphasizing that the party is supreme.

Also speaking, the Deputy Leader of the Bekwarra Legislative Council, Hon. Odey, alongside other representatives from various local government areas, shared testimonials highlighting what they described as Ayade’s lasting political legacy across the northern region. They emphasized that the former governor’s contributions continue to resonate with the people, reinforcing their collective decision to rally behind him.

Hon. Odey further praised the move and urged fellow councillors to remain united while awaiting the official position of the party. He stressed that party supremacy must guide all political actions, calling for patience and discipline among stakeholders.

The councillors affirmed their readiness to mobilize support across their communities, stressing that their backing reflects both loyalty and a shared vision for continued development in the district.

Responding on behalf of Ayade, Comrade Linus Ibli expressed gratitude to the councillors for their solidarity and commitment to the growth of the All Progressives Congress.

Ibli, however, cautioned that the meeting should not be interpreted as a formal endorsement, explaining that the party is yet to issue directives regarding the 2027 elections. He urged the councillors to remain active and patient as the political process unfolds.

He assured the gathering that their message of support would be conveyed to Ayade, describing the development as a significant boost to the former governor’s political prospects.

Debunking rumours of endorsing another senatorial aspirant, Hon. Ade John (Bishiri North), Majority Leader; Hon. Godwin Odey (Garkim Ward), Deputy Leader; and Hon. Francis Upan (Begiadaing Ward), Deputy Chief Whip, emphasized that their actions remain guided by party directives and internal consultations.

They noted that any official endorsement would be made collectively and in line with the party’s position, stressing that the circulating claims are false and intended to cause division.

The councillors further urged members of the public and political stakeholders to disregard the rumours, emphasizing the importance of unity and discipline as the 2027 elections approach.
