The Cross River State Government, in collaboration with the Center for Community Policy and Strategic Development (CCPSD), has commenced a two-day capacity-building training workshop for Local Government Council Chairmen, their Vice Chairmen, and Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs) from all 18 LGAs in the state.
The workshop, which began on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Hogis Royal Hotel, Calabar, is themed “Building Critical Local Government Institutions for Good Governance and Sustainable Community Development, the Cross River State Model.”
Speaking during the training, the Executive Secretary of CCPSD, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo, highlighted that the workshop is focused on developing a best-practice administrative framework to enhance good governance and drive sustainable development within the local government system in Cross River State.
In their goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Victor-Felix Idem, and the Chairman of Yakurr LGA, Hon. Yibala Inyang, who also serves as the Chairman of the LG Chairmen Forum, welcomed participants. They urged them to leverage the training to improve governance and deliver the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
Both speakers commended Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, for their visionary leadership and commitment to improving the living standards of the people.
The event featured insightful presentations from seasoned facilitators, including Dr. Ernest Etim Bassey, Prof. Peter Oti, Rt. Hon. John Gaul, and Prof. Ndem Ayara. It was also attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Otu Ita, along with Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and other top government officials.
