Foundation Splashes Millions on Etung-Obubra Students in Tertiary Institutions

The sun hung gently over Calabar as students from Obubra and Etung hurried into Hoggis Luxury Hotel, their faces lit with anticipation. For many, this was no ordinary gathering—it was a day hope would take on flesh, a day long-awaited dreams would finally feel within reach.

Inside the hall, the air was thick with gratitude and excitement. Laughter mingled with murmured prayers of thanks, and the bright colours of traditional attire sparkled beneath the soft lights. It felt less like a ceremony and more like a celebration of possibility.

At the centre of it all stood the Abon Abang Foundation, whose decision to invest millions in the educational pursuits of young scholars had drawn together dignitaries, academics, and community leaders. The event opened under the calm guidance of Dr. Emmanuel Awubi of the University of Calabar, who carried himself with the quiet pride of a mentor watching greatness unfold.

The true spark of the day came when Dr. Victor Etim Ndum took the stage. With a voice that carried both wisdom and urgency, he delivered a keynote titled “Education as a Key to Opportunity: Building Leaders for Future Impact.” His words rolled through the hall like a gentle tide:

“Education is the ladder that lifts the determined,” he said, “from the narrow plains of limitation to the wide horizons of possibility.”

Heads nodded. Eyes glistened. For many young people in the room, his words echoed their deepest hopes.

As the ceremony progressed, speaker after speaker rose to pay tribute to the man behind the initiative- Engr. Dr. George Ndifon Abang. To some, he was a philanthropist; to others, a visionary; but to all, he was the quiet force rewriting the educational narrative of Obubra and Etung. Stories were shared of his humility, his silent sacrifices, and his unwavering belief that the next generation deserved better.

Then came the moment the students had been waiting for-the presentation of support. As names were called, the room filled with applause. Some students stepped forward with wide smiles; others fought back tears. It wasn’t just money they received-it was validation. It was someone saying, “I believe in your future.”

Parents embraced their children. Lecturers exchanged proud glances. And the beneficiaries, some with shaky voices, expressed gratitude that seemed to rise straight from their hearts.

By the time the event drew to a close, the hall still buzzed with renewed determination. Conversations lingered about dreams rekindled, goals revived, and a future that suddenly felt brighter.

As the crowd slowly dispersed into the warm Calabar evening, one truth remained unmistakably clear: when a leader chooses to invest in minds, not monuments, a community’s tomorrow begins to change.

And on this day, through the Abon Abang Foundation, the future of Etung and Obubra had indeed taken a new, radiant turn.
