Cross River State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu, has praised Hon. Sylvester Agabi, the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, for his exceptional character, humility and leadership qualities.
The commendation from the Governor, represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, was delivered during a thanksgiving service held in honor of the Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly and the launching of the Church Building and The David Agabi Foundation at the Assemblies of God Church in Nkirira, Utugwang, Obudu Local Government Area.
Odey, who chaired the ceremony, attributed the party’s nomination, victory in the 2023 House of Assembly elections, and the attainment of the Deputy Speaker position in the house to grace and the Deputy Speaker’s exceptional humility and sterling leadership qualities.
He urged the lawmaker to remain focused, committed, and dedicated, emphasizing that God had granted him the position to serve both Him and his constituents. He praised the lawmaker for spearheading the construction of a place of worship and for officially launching a foundation in memory of his late brother, David Agabi, aimed at making a positive impact on society.
The Governor’s representative, while admonishing the congregation to emulate Hon. Agabi’s example of humility, expressed gratitude to the people of Obudu state constituency for their support in his emergence and their steadfast support of the ‘People First’ Government under Governor Otu’s leadership.
Continuing, he reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving the welfare of its citizens in alignment with the ‘People First’ mantra and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
During his remarks, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, highlighted the supportive role and collaborative efforts of his deputy, Hon. Agabi, in achieving the successes of the 10th Assembly under his leadership. He expressed gratitude to the constituents for their unwavering support to the lawmaker and the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration.
Speaking earlier, the celebrant and Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, credited his political advancement to God and the unwavering support of his constituents, as well as that of the former Chief of Staff to the immediate past Governor, Hon. Chief Martin Orim.
He intimated that the formal launch of The David Agabi Foundation honors his late elder brother’s vision of building a church for God, which unfortunately remained unfulfilled due to his untimely passing.
