Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has assured the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), of his administration continued support and cooperation to enhance security, revenue generation and traffic management.
The ‘People First’ Governor Bassey Otu, represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, gave the assurance when the Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Bayelsa, River, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, ACM Henry Benamaisia visited him in Government House, Calabar.
He informed Commander Benamaisia of state government’s tremendous assistance to the corps in the past and assured him that his request for logistics to establish Driver Licence Centers in Obudu and Yakurr Local Government Areas would be looked into.
Otu expressed concern over the challenges people face in obtaining a license in Calabar and urged the FRSC to enhance the registration and re-validation process, particularly improving the image capturing segment to reduce inconvenience for motorists on the road.
Speaking earlier during a familiarization visit to Cross River State, which is under his watch, Zonal Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, ACM Henry Benamaisia congratulated Governor Bassey Otu for embarking on people-oriented projects in his first year in office.
While praising the Cross River State Government for its support and cooperation with the State Sector Command of the FRSC, Benamaisia also appealed to the government for logistical support to establish Driver License Centers in Obudu and Ugep, in Obudu and Yakurr Local Government Areas respectively.
He highlighted that the lack of Driver License Centers in these locations forces motorists to travel to nearby states such as Ebonyi and Benue to obtain driving licenses, which he emphasized does not help the state in boosting its revenue generation.
He urged motorists to follow road traffic regulations diligently to decrease road traffic accidents in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr Erasmus Ekpang, Head of Personal Staff to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Chris Ojikpong, Executive Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service, Prince Edwin Okon, State Sector Commander of the Corps, State Coordinator , Special Marshalls, among others were in attendance.
