The Youth Arise Movement (YAM), a prominent sociopolitical group in Nigeria, has applauded the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, for his swift intervention in the arrest of Mathias Amunde, a 24-year-old man who allegedly murdered his mother, Mrs. Justina Amunde, and dumped her body in a pit.
The gruesome incident, which occurred recently on Chairman Road in Ohong Community, Obudu Local Government Area, left residents in shock and disbelief, sparking widespread pandemonium.
Hon. Undiandeye, acting on a report from his Special Adviser on Peace and Security, Mr. Emmanuel Ikem, promptly mobilized security operatives and collaborated with community leaders to facilitate the successful apprehension of the suspect, a days after the incident.
In a statement issued by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joseph Imona, YAM praised the Chairman’s decisive leadership. “We commend Hon. Undiandeye for his prompt and timely intervention. His actions have not only ensured justice but also demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of Obudu,” Imona stated.
He further acknowledged the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders involved in the suspect’s arrest, emphasizing that the suspect must face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
Imona also expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody as investigations into the case continue.
