The Forum of Past and Present Students Union Leaders in Cross River State has commended the people of the state, particularly the youth and students, for avoiding participation in the nationwide protest.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Convener of the forum, Prof. Francisca Bassey, praised the youth for heeding the advice of the state government not to be used by a faceless group operating under the banner of #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.
“Your decision to refrain from participating in this protest is definitely not a sign of weakness, cowardice or ignorance of your fundamental human right, rather it’s your knowledge of the perceived devastating end result as already witnessed in other states. This speaks volumes of your dedication and appreciation for the genuine efforts of our “People First” Governor determination and visible dedication towards alleviating the sufferings of the good people of Cross River State.
“The state government deeply acknowledges and empathizes with the difficulties and suffering faced by our people.
“I assure you that our Governor and his administration recognize and understand these challenges.
“In this spirit, I express my heartfelt appreciation and make an urgent appeal for us to continue to say NO to protests.
“Governor Senator Prince Bassey Otu, guided by his “People First” mantra, is dedicated to revitalizing Cross River State and alleviating the hardships endured by our people.
“His commitment is to foster meaningful change and advancement within our state.
Recalling the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest, Prof. Bassey stated, “We must remember that our state is still recovering from the profound impacts of the EndSARS protests four years ago. The damages to TINAPA, the State Library Complex, Akpabuyo Local Government Council Secretariat, UNICAL Hotel and other infrastructures are still fresh in our memory. We cannot afford to revisit such turmoil or inflict further damage upon ourselves.
“Let us not align with those seeking to disrupt the progress and restoration initiated by our dear Governor HE Sen Prince Bassey Otu.
Cross River State has long been a symbol of peace and unity, and we must maintain this peace.
“Supporting positive policies and their effective implementation is essential, rather than engaging in protest. We must continue to tow the path of dialogue and collectively reject protests and reaffirm our commitment to the advancement and blessings being brought to our state under Governor Otu’s leadership”.
Concluding, the National Convener of FOPPSUL, said, “In unity and cooperation, let us continue to support our Governor’s efforts to achieve constructive change.
“Cross River State is a peaceful state, and it is our shared responsibility to uphold this peace for the benefit of all”.
