In a time when many young people are searching for opportunities, direction, and support, Rt. Hon. Mkpanam Obo-Ekpo has continued to distinguish himself as a leader whose passion for humanity transcends politics and rhetoric.

Last year, the former member representing Biase State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly demonstrated this commitment in practical terms when he empowered over 500 youths across Akamkpa and Biase Local Government Areas through a comprehensive skill acquisition and vocational training programme held at Hope Waddell Training Institute.

For many beneficiaries, the programme was more than just another empowerment initiative; it was a life-changing opportunity that restored hope, inspired confidence, and opened new doors to economic independence.

Popularly described by supporters as the “Master of Empowerment in Akamkpa and Biase,” Rt. Hon. Mkpanam Obo-Ekpo once again proved that true leadership is measured not merely by promises made, but by lives transformed.

The empowerment programme covered a wide range of agricultural, entrepreneurial, and vocational skills carefully designed to equip participants with practical knowledge for self-reliance and sustainable living.

Under the agricultural training category, beneficiaries received hands-on instruction in fish farming and aquatic studies, palm oil estate development and management, cocoa farming and crop production, poultry farming, and livestock production.

The entrepreneurship and vocational skills segment featured intensive training in makeup artistry, manicure and pedicure, paint production, wallpaper installation, and the production of household items such as hypo, organic soap, Dettol, Izal, and liquid soap.

By investing in human capital development, Rt. Hon. Mkpanam Obo-Ekpo did not merely train youths; he empowered future employers, entrepreneurs, and community builders capable of contributing meaningfully to local economic growth.

Addressing participants during the event, the former lawmaker emphasized the urgent need for youths to embrace skill acquisition and entrepreneurship in an era where white-collar jobs are increasingly limited.

According to him, the future belongs to those willing to develop practical skills, create opportunities for themselves, and become solution providers within their communities.

His message resonated strongly with the beneficiaries, many of whom described the initiative as timely, impactful, and deeply inspiring.

The event attracted several dignitaries and stakeholders from across Cross River State, including Barr. Ijom-Odum Ukam, Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition; Hon. Prince Paul Effiong; Hon. Princess Magdalene Ekpe, Chairman of the Councillors’ Forum in Cross River State; coordinators from Akamkpa and Biase; as well as other political and community leaders.

Beyond the speeches and ceremonies, the empowerment programme reflected a larger philosophy of leadership anchored on service, inclusion, and sustainable development.

Rt. Hon. Mkpanam Obo-Ekpo’s commitment to youth empowerment continues to stand as a testament to his belief that the strength of any society lies in the productivity and preparedness of its younger generation.

As excitement filled the atmosphere, beneficiaries of the programme unanimously expressed appreciation to Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy for their support towards youth-focused initiatives, while endorsing the administration for a second term in office.

Indeed, long after the applause faded and the event concluded, the impact of the programme continues to echo across communities in Akamkpa and Biase, where many beneficiaries are already applying their newly acquired skills to improve their livelihoods and build a better future.

For Rt. Hon. Mkpanam Obo-Ekpo, empowerment is not merely a political slogan; it is a mission, a responsibility, and a lasting legacy of hope.
