The good people of Idum-Mbube of Ogoja Local Government Area, on Saturday, June 29th, 2024 organized a special reception in honour of her illustrious son and Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey.
In his welcome address on behalf of the community, Chief Patrick Agida stated, “We, the Idum-Mbube Community in Calabar, gather to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding leadership, dedication, and service of our son, His Excellency, Rt Hon. Peter Odey” while describing Odey as a source of inspiration and a driving force behind numerous initiatives that have brought positive impacts to Mbube nation, Ogoja Local Government Area, the state, and the country.
Reiterating the purpose of the reception, he emphasized, “This event is a testament to our shared appreciation and gratitude for the Deputy Governor’s steadfast commitment to public service.”
“We pledge our support to you and your principal, the Governor, and also extend our deep gratitude to the Governor, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the opportunity given to our son to serve as the Deputy Governor,” Agida stated.
Addressing the gathering, the Special Guest and Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt Hon. Peter Odey, praised the Idum-Mbube community for hosting a vibrant and festive reception in his honor.
Odey acknowledged that his people’s kind gesture would not be taken for granted, assuring them that greater and brighter days await the people of Mbube and the state in general.
The Deputy Governor used the occasion to intimate that Governor of Otu is determined to bring infrastructural development to rural areas, ensuring Mbube nation would not be left out.
In their various goodwill messages, notable community leaders and stakeholders including Former Nigerian Ambassador to Angola, Prof. Monique Ekpong, President of Mbube Women Welfare Association, Calabar, Mrs Mary Abuo and a renowned community leader, Chief Akpe Ogon, among others applauded the former leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Odey for his exceptional humility and unwavering loyalty to his Principal, the ‘People First’ Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, urging him to remain steadfast.
They expressed that he has not only been a strong advocate for progress and development but also a compassionate leader who consistently prioritizes the needs of Mbube people, Ogoja LGA, and the state as a whole.
Apogee of the event was the presentation of gifts and souvenirs to the Deputy Governor on behalf of Idum-Mbube Community in Calabar by Chief Patrick Agida, a retired Permanent Secretary, assisted by Prof. Tom Ojikpong, accompanied by traditional dances.
