Lion Sandra Achu has been installed as the 17th President of Calabar Tinapa Lions Club, pledging to strengthen the club’s humanitarian services, promote community development and prioritise the completion of its ongoing six-classroom project.

Achu was installed at a ceremony held on Thursday, October 1, at Beelaj Event Centre, off Marian Road, Calabar, attended by Lions Club members, dignitaries, community leaders, friends and well-wishers.
The ceremony featured the investiture of the president and her Board of Directors, induction of new members, presentation of awards and a fundraising session in support of her administration’s core project.

Speaking after her installation, Achu described her emergence as the club’s 17th president as a privilege and a responsibility, assuring members of her commitment to building on the achievements of previous administrations.
She identified the completion of a block of six classrooms with a staff office as a major priority of her administration, noting that the project reflects the club’s commitment to education and community development.

The new president acknowledged the contributions of past leaders and members, describing their achievements as a strong foundation for her administration. She pledged to sustain successful initiatives while introducing programmes that respond to the evolving needs of the communities served by the club.
Achu also called for unity, teamwork and active participation among members, stressing that the success of her tenure would depend on their collective commitment to the ideals of the Lions organisation.

On partnerships, she expressed readiness to collaborate with government institutions, corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations, community leaders and individuals to expand the reach and sustainability of the club’s humanitarian interventions.
She appealed to individuals and organisations committed to humanitarian service to support the club’s programmes, adding that strategic partnerships would enhance its capacity to deliver projects with lasting benefits.
Addressing members, Achu urged them to remain dedicated to the organisation’s service ideals, emphasising the importance of giving their time, treasures and talents to improve the lives of the less privileged.
She equally encouraged young people and members of the public interested in humanitarian work to join or support the activities of the club.
With her installation, Achu begins her tenure for the 2026/2027 service year, during which her administration is expected to pursue initiatives aimed at strengthening the club’s humanitarian impact.
She said the success of her administration would be measured not merely by the number of programmes organised but by the lives touched and the positive changes recorded in the communities served.
The new leadership is expected to work with the Board of Directors and other members to translate the administration’s vision into tangible results, with particular emphasis on completing the classroom project and sustaining the club’s commitment to service and community development.
