Dr. Mathias Unimke Angioha stands out as a distinguished philanthropist, accomplished academic, and committed grassroots politician whose life is defined by service to humanity and unwavering dedication to the development of his hometown and Cross River State at large. His personal ethos, rooted in empathy, discipline, and community engagement, continues to shape a leadership style that prioritizes people-centered progress.

A firm believer that genuine development can only be achieved through a deep understanding of the people’s struggles, aspirations, and realities, Dr. Angioha has consistently championed inclusive governance. His political philosophy transcends theory, reflecting a sincere connection with everyday societal challenges and a strong commitment to social justice, collaboration, and participatory leadership.

Dr. Angioha began his educational journey at Central Primary School, Ohong, where his passion for learning and community service emerged at an early age. Even as a child, he showed a remarkable inclination toward philanthropy, initiating small charitable acts that laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to service. He later attended St. Charles Primary School, Obudu, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate, before proceeding to Government Secondary School, Obudu. At the secondary level, he distinguished himself as an exemplary student, known for punctuality, discipline, respect, and leadership. He served in several leadership capacities, including Class Monitor, School Regulator, and Senior Prefect, and graduated as one of the best students in his class.

Driven by an unrelenting quest for knowledge, Dr. Angioha enrolled at the Federal College of Education, Obudu, where he earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with merit, graduating as the overall best student in his class and emerging as the best student in Linguistics. He furthered his studies at the University of Calabar, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and Literary Studies, followed by a Master of Arts in English and Literary Studies, with specialization in Style and African Literature. Demonstrating exceptional academic brilliance, he proceeded to earn a second master’s degree in the same field, graduating as one of the best students in his class. His outstanding performance earned him an automatic offer of appointment as a lecturer at the University of Calabar, an opportunity he respectfully declined due to his commitment to public service.

Dr. Angioha holds two doctoral degrees: a PhD in Communication Studies and another PhD in English and Literary Studies, with a strong focus on Literary Style and African Literature. His doctoral research significantly contributed to scholarly discourse, particularly in African literary studies. He graduated as the best PhD student in his class with a cumulative GPA of 4.8, underscoring his exceptional academic excellence.

Politically, Dr. Angioha is a prominent and respected figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State. He has actively participated in high-level political engagements and national tours, building strong networks and fostering unity within the party. Widely admired for his humility, compassion, and accessibility, he is known as a leader who genuinely prioritizes the welfare of the people. His commitment to social responsibility is evident in his consistent support for individuals facing educational and medical challenges. In recognition of his capacity and dedication, he was appointed Senior Special Adviser (Domestic Affairs) to the former Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade, CON, a position he held from 2015 to 2023, during which he made significant contributions to governance and policy implementation.

Dr. Angioha’s steadfast loyalty, competence, and goodwill have continued to earn him the confidence of the current administration. In 2023, he was appointed Honourable Commissioner for Industries, Cross River State, by Governor Bassey Edet Otu, a position he currently holds. This appointment reflects not only his exceptional qualifications but also his strategic importance in advancing industrial development, innovation, and economic growth within the state.

Dr. Mathias Unimke Angioha exemplifies visionary leadership anchored on scholarship, compassion, and public service. His journey—spanning academia, philanthropy, and governance—continues to inspire many, as he remains committed to building a more equitable, prosperous, and inclusive Cross River State.
