In line with the provisions of the Local Government Law, the Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Dr. Sunday Ayang yesterday issued a proclamation dissolving the 6th Legislative Assembly and subsequently swore- in a new Obanliku Legislative Council.
The Oath-taking was administered by the Clerk of the House, Jane Odey and assisted by the Deputy Clerk. The newly constituted 7th Obanliku Legislative Council had the following principal office holders; Hon. Sunday Elam, Councilor representing Becheve Ward as Leader, Hon. Admin Ufada, Councilor representing Basang Ward as Deputy Leader, Hon. Sabastin, Hon Abeshi and Hon. Ade John also emerged as Chief Whip, deputy Whip and majority leader respectively.
The chairman used the occasion to formerly congratulate all the councilors for their victory at the polls and subsequent oath taking and swearing -in. He further urged the leadership of the house to sustain harmonious relationship with his colleagues at all times, while emphasising that effective Executive -Legislative collaboration is paramount for the progress of Obanliku. “I am prepared and ready to collaborate with you in order to foster development in Obanliku.”
The Leader , Hon Sunday Elam in his acceptance speech appreciated his colleagues for finding him worthy to lead the 7th Legislative Assembly. He sought their continuous cooperation towards a successful tenure in office.
Present at the Swearing in Ceremony were the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Glory Awowoh, the Paramount Ruler of Obanliku, HRM Uchua Amos Item who was duly represented , the APC Chapter Chairman , Pastor George Ejikang, Religious leaders led by Rev. Dr. Moses Odey, amongst other well meaningful guests. The legislative session was adjourned to a later date, amidst a mammoth crowd of well-wishers and family members who came to observe and cheer their Ward councilors on the historic event of their oath taking and swearing -in ceremony.
With the constitution of the 7th Legislative Council in Obanliku, the hope of the citizens who have been yearning for grassroot representation has been reawaken. It is indeed a dawn of a new era which promises to aggressively transform Obanliku.
