Obudu Council Chairman, Hon. (Amb) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, (KSM) accompanied by his Vice, Hon. Rhoda Ashong, Leader of Council, Hon. Sam Eneji, Special Adviser on Peace and Security to the Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Ikem, and other council appointees, joined the Akpo family in marking the one-year memorial and remembrance ceremony of their beloved father and patriarch, Late Pa Francis Ingwubel Akpo, held at the family residence in Obudu.

The event, which took place on Sunday, also coincided with the posthumous birthday of Late Pa Francis Akpo, a revered community leader, father, and father figure to many.

In his remarks at the twin event, Undiandeye stated: “Yes, this monumental loss still resonates deeply with us and with the entire people of Obudu. As you can see, we are all still struggling to heal. As Chairman of Council, I chose to stand with the Akpo family today to commemorate both the one-year memorial and the posthumous birthday of this great man, and to reflect on his life’s journey and contributions.”

He further encouraged the family, friends and well wishers to take comfort in the assurance that Pa Francis’ soul rest in peace, urging them to draw strength from his enduring legacy.

“I pray God grants you continued strength, calm, and the grace to emulate his life of service and goodwill to humanity.”

Hon. Undiandeye also praised the late Pa Francis Akpo for his remarkable legacy as an outstanding educator and civil servant who served with distinction until his passing.

Responding on behalf of the family, Dr. Eric Akpo expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chairman, describing the gesture as “heartwarming and an example of true leadership.”

He noted that although the Chairman did not receive a formal invitation, he still made time, on short notice, to honour the occasion—an act the family deeply cherishes. Dr. Akpo concluded by praying for more wisdom, strength, and grace upon the Chairman and his team as they continue to serve the people of Obudu.

Immediate past Chief of Staff to the former Governor of Cross River State, Hon. Chief Martin Orim, In-laws, political associates and friends of the Akpo’s family, among others were in also in attendance.
