In a significant stride to bolster agricultural productivity and fulfill his campaign pledges, the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, on Friday distributed 1,000 bags of high-quality NPK fertilizers to farmers across the area. The gesture, aligned with the ‘People First’ agrarian agenda of Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, aims to alleviate financial burdens on farmers, enhance food security, and stimulate economic growth.
The distribution ceremony, held at the Youth House, Obudu, drew hundreds of farmers and key stakeholders. Hon Undiandeye emphasized that the gesture reflects his administration’s commitment to empowering rural communities and advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
“This intervention fulfills a core promise I made to our people,” Undiandeye declared. “By supporting our farmers, we are directly contributing to Governor Otu’s vision of a food-secure and prosperous Cross River.
These fertilizers will not only boost crop productivity but also ensure higher yields, translating to improved livelihoods for our hardworking farmers.”
He urged beneficiaries to utilize the resources judiciously, stressing the importance of maximizing harvests during the ongoing planting season.
Farmers expressed profound gratitude for the timely intervention, particularly amid soaring fertilizer prices. David Utsu, a beneficiary from Ipong Ward, shared, “This support couldn’t have come at a better time. It will significantly reduce our costs and help us achieve better yields this season.”
The event was graced by the Vice Chairman of Council, Hon. Rhoda Ashong, Leader of the Council, Hon. Eneji Sam, councillors, Secretary of the Council, All Progressives Congress (APC) Chapter Chairman, ward chairmen, and other dignitaries.
