In the late hours of Saturday night, tragedy struck as a man and a woman were involved in a severe accident along Mary Slessor Road, Calabar and rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

However, upon arrival, the victims were initially denied treatment due to past incidents that had led to hospital staff facing legal troubles for treating emergency cases without proper clearance.

Michael Nsan, the Director of Homeland Security (South), a first responder on the scene, reported that he had to stand in as a law enforcement figure to ensure the hospital agreed to attend to the victims. Sadly, the male victim was confirmed dead upon arrival, but the female victim, identified as Felicia (surname withheld), survived and required urgent medical attention.

Upon learning that Felicia hails from Obudu, Michael immediately contacted the Obudu Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Amb) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM. In a commendable act of leadership and compassion, the Chairman, at about 1AM personally rushed to the hospital and provided full financial support, ensuring that all medical bills were settled without delay.

His timely intervention, along with assistance from Dr. George Edidiong of the University of Calabar, who also contributed financially, enabled Felicia to receive immediate and critical surgical care.

He commended the swift intervention and help from Mr Michael Nsan, Dr George Edidiong of the University of Calabar and all those who played one role or the other from the scene of the accident to hospital where she is receiving and responding to treatment.
