The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Friday, joined several dignitaries to celebrate the life and times of the nonagenarian, Late Prof. Edet Okon Mkposong who recently passed away at the age of 94.
Governor Otu who was represented at the funeral service held at the Wesley Cathedral of the Methodist Church, Calabar, by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, said Late Prof. Mkposong was a quintessential medical professional, erudite scholar and astute administrator whose irreplaceable demise was a painful occurrence at this point of the State’s health care drive.
While crediting to Prof. Mkposong the establishment of the first Urology Unit in Nigeria at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, the Governor noted that the Late Professor had contributed exponentially to the advancement of the medical profession both within and outside the shores of Nigeria.
During his lifetime, Professor Nkposong trained numerous urologists who hold consultant and academic positions worldwide. A retired don who taught at the University of Ibadan and the University of Calabar, Professor Mkposong also worked as Head of Urological Services and Chief of Surgical Services at Farasan
General Hospital, Jizan, Saudi
Arabia.
Other dignitaries also gave glowing commendations in celebration of the impactful life Late Prof. Mkposong lived.
