The People Empowerment and Development Foundation (PEDF), a growing non-governmental microfinance institution, is set to celebrate its one-year anniversary on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at its head office located at 49B Ogoja Road, Obudu, Cross River State.

Founded by Prince Lawrence Ukpapi, the organization has, within just one year, carved a niche for itself in promoting financial inclusion and social development across underprivileged communities in Nigeria and beyond.
PEDF operates with a mission to bridge the financial gap between the formal economy and the unbanked population by providing affordable, accessible, and people-centered financial services. Its model emphasizes empathy, empowerment, and sustainability, targeting those at the base of the economic pyramid.
Speaking ahead of the anniversary, Ukpapi said the journey so far has been both challenging and inspiring.

“Our goal has always been to create opportunities for people who are often left out of the financial system,” he said. “We believe that empowering the underprivileged through access to finance is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty and strengthen communities.”
Over the past year, PEDF has recorded significant milestones, including the financial empowerment of small business owners, farmers, traders, and artisans across Cross River State and the Federal Capital Territory. Through its microfinance initiatives, the Foundation has helped many beneficiaries access start-up capital, grow their businesses, and improve household income, thereby contributing to local economic growth.

From its Obudu headquarters, PEDF has expanded its operations to several key locations, including Abuja (FCT) at 2nd Floor, SHM Complex, Mabuchi (after the Ministry of Works); Utugwang at No. 6 Ogoja Road, near Utugwang Cyclist Park; Utanga at KM 22 Ranch Road, opposite Emirate School; and Okuku at Shop 5, beside Klinnicapps Academy, Imaji Road.
The Foundation’s founder also announced that plans are at an advanced stage to establish a new branch in Bekwarra Local Government Area, as part of its drive to reach more rural communities with innovative microfinance solutions.
As PEDF marks its one-year milestone, it continues to position itself as a catalyst for positive change by offering services that not only empower individuals but also foster social cohesion, entrepreneurship, and community resilience.
