As part of her ongoing stakeholders’ engagement, the National Population Commission (NPC) Cross River State led by the Honorable Federal Commissioner (HFC), Rt. Hon. Alex Ukam paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Sport Development, Senator John Owan Enoh to advocate support for upcoming Birth Registration outreach in the State.

In a meeting at the Federal Ministry of Sport, the Cross River State NPC Boss appreciated the warm reception, commitment, and proactiveness of the Minister, despite very short notice, adding that was an indication of mutual respect and love for Cross River State.

Rt. Hon. Ukam used the opportunity to intimate the Minister about the low record of birth registrations in Cross River State due to a wide range of challenges militating against effective delivery of population services in such as difficult terrains, poor and or lack of needed facilities, low manpower, and other logistics as well as infrastructural concerns.

The NPC Federal Commissioner further drew the attention of the Sport Minister to the importance of demographics and the implication of the State’s low birth registration rate to State planning, identity of children, and vital statistics which are often used to determine revenue collection, allocation and access to support from donor agencies which necessitated the visit to mobilise stakeholders’ support towards improving birth registration records in the state.

In his response, the Honourable Minister of Sport Development congratulated the Cross River NPC Federal Commissioner on his recent appointment and inauguration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a goal getter, hardworking and thorough breed who has all it takes to actualize the mandate of the Commission in the State.

Senator Owan who reiterated his understanding and commitment for population related issues. “Having a Masters degree in Demographics, I think I am well vest in the subject matter” the Honourable Minister noted. He assured NPC Cross River State of his support to improve the delivery of population services across the state.
