As part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations, the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has conferred the title of Honorary Ambassador on the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Agbe Odey, Ph.D.
The investiture took place on Wednesday at the Government House, Calabar, during a courtesy visit by a delegation led by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi.
In her remarks, Professor Obi praised the Deputy Governor for his dedication and commitment to proactive engagement as an alumnus and acknowledged his unwavering support and significant contributions to both the university and the state.
In response, Deputy Governor Odey, a proud UNICAL alumnus, expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the educational agenda of the “People First” administration led by Governor Apostle Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu.
Reflecting on his undergraduate years, Odey recalled his time at UNICAL during his undergraduate days, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. These roles, he noted, were instrumental in shaping his leadership skills and deepening his dedication to public service.
“There is no better time to celebrate UNICAL at 50 than now, when both the Governor and his Deputy are former students of this great institution,” Odey remarked.
He further commended Professor Obi for her exemplary leadership, noting that her tenure has brought significant advancements in academic excellence and infrastructural development.
Pledging continued support for the university as an alumnus, Odey encouraged fellow graduates to give back to the institution that shaped their careers, emphasizing the importance of alumni contributions in sustaining UNICAL’s legacy of excellence.
