The Lawmaker representing Yakurr 1 Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Cyril James Omini, on Friday disbursed ₦15 million to 150 women in his constituency to bolster their small-scale businesses.

Addressing beneficiaries at the ceremony held at the Council Guest House, in Ugep, Hon. Omini said the empowerment is in commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day and to demonstrate his unwavering committment to transform the socio-economic status of women of his constituency amid the trending global economic challenges.

Mr. Cyril who doubles as Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment for women to excel in their chosen fields, stressing that women’s empowerment is pivotal in addressing various societal challenges and fostering self-reliance.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises, particularly in empowering women and youths to alleviate poverty and enhance living standards and overall well-being of his constituents, in line with the ‘People First’ mantra of the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

While commending his constituents for their unwavering support, the lawmaker assured them of his continued commitment to providing effective representation.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely and take advantage of other business training and mentorship, offered by his office.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Rosemary Eko who spoke on behalf of other women thanked the lawmaker for prioritizing the welfare of his constituents and assured him of their steadfast support now and in the future.

“We are immensely grateful to Hon. Cyril Omini for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents, especially women. His generosity and dedication have made a tangible difference in our lives – it has never been so in the history of politics in our constituency. This generosity is unprecedented and we assure him of our steadfast support now and in the future,” she added.
