We are writing to address and refute the malicious and baseless allegations made against Dr. George O’ben-Etchi, Chairman of the Cross River State Forestry Commission, by Samuel Egba. The claims in the recent article authored by Egba are not only unfounded but also indicative of a clear attempt to tarnish the reputation of a dedicated public servant.

The content of the article is filled with false accusations and personal attacks devoid of any factual basis. It is clear that the author’s intent is to create unnecessary discord and undermine the hard work of Chairman O’ben-Etchi, who has been steadfast in his commitment to protecting Cross River’s forests and promoting sustainable development.

Ordinarily, we would not dignify such claims with a response. However, it has become necessary to bring an end to this pattern of baseless blackmail. Earlier this year, Samuel Egba approached Dr. O’ben-Etchi, seeking a recommendation for an appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Forestry. This request was declined as Egba lacked the qualifications and character for the position (refer to screenshots). Subsequently, Egba made further attempts to involve Dr. O’ben-Etchi in a so-called “spiritual circle” linked to Freemasonry and Ogboni confraternity, which was promptly rejected by the Chairman due to his Christian beliefs (refer to screenshots).

After repeated failed attempts to gain favor, Egba has resorted to a campaign of blackmail. We wish to set the record straight. Under the leadership of Dr. O’ben-Etchi, the Cross River State Forestry Commission has achieved remarkable success, backed by the support of Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu. Chairman O’ben-Etchi’s exceptional leadership is evident in the progress made to protect the state’s forests and promote sustainable practices.

Assertions about his political viability are irrelevant and trivial, as Dr. O’ben-Etchi’s contributions and track record speak for themselves.

We urge the public to disregard these falsehoods and remain focused on the positive strides the Forestry Commission continues to make under the Chairman’s leadership. We stand firmly in support of Dr. George O’ben-Etchi and the Cross River State Forestry Commission.
